Services

At Elizabeth Jones Dental Hygiene Clinic I am proud to provide you and your family with the best in preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene care. I offer a full scope of dental hygiene services available to people of all age groups – from toddlers to seniors and everyone in between.

Initial Assessment and Oral Examinations
A complete examination will be done to assess a new patient’s periodontal condition. Information on dental and oral tissue health is collected and any patient concerns are recorded and explained to you. The information from your exam can be sent to your dentist, with your consent, and a treatment plan and daily oral hygiene regime is developed.

Dental X-rays
Dental x-rays are essential, preventative, diagnostic tools that provide valuable information in regards to gum disease and potential decay. This information is used to safely and accurately detect hidden dental abnormalities and complete an accurate treatment plan. Without x-rays, problem areas may go undetected. They are taken based on the patients needs.

Scaling and Root Planing
The removal of bacterial plaque, stain and calculus (tartar) from both above and below the gum line using a gentle touch. Scaling and root planing is essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.

Polishing
The removal of stains and soft deposits of plaque that accumulate on teeth, including stains from coffee, tea, red wine and smoking. Polishing not only leads to cosmetic benefits – like a brighter smile, but also makes teeth surfaces smoother which slows down the development of bacterial plaque.

Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride treatments can be used to strengthen and remineralize tooth enamel to prevent or stop tooth decay and to support the remineralization process. Fluoride options include at home toothpastes, mouth rinses and gels, in addition to the professional fluoride treatments done in the clinic to support your remineralization needs.

Desensitizing Treatment
Sensitive teeth can be treated by applying a desensitizing liquid or varnish which blocks the exposed dentin and helps to reduce pain and sensitivity. Desensitizing treatments can be applied as a part of an ongoing treatment process or prior to hygiene work if you have extremely sensitive teeth.

Pit and Fissure Sealants
Preventative resin coatings can be applied to the biting surfaces of molars and premolars to prevent bacteria from getting stuck in the pits and fissures of these teeth. This prevents bacteria buildup in places that toothbrushes cannot often reach and is typically done shortly after the full eruption of the permanent tooth.

Periodontal Pocket Irrigation
Irrigation can be used to cleanse periodontal pockets of plaque and debris that can collect in the interdental spaces (between the teeth) and subgingival areas (under the gumline). This prevents and reduces the amount of harmful bacteria in the mouth and promotes healing and reduction of pocket size.

Oral Hygiene Instruction
Individualized instruction on methods for plaque removal, stain reduction, desensitization and tissue stimulation in order to maximize your oral health are evaluated and updated at each appointment. All specialty oral hygiene aids are provided and explained to you based on your needs.

Custom Sports Mouth Guards
Sports mouth guards are protective resin trays that cover the teeth, protecting them from injury during sports activities. They are custom made to fit the individual snugly and are less bulky that store bought brands.

Whitening Treatments
Teeth whitening is a harmless, quick, simple and cost-effective way to brighten your smile. Ask  about which options would work best for you.
